i am
a wandering wordsmith
a buddhist, a yoga teacher, an english professora
a polyglot, culturally curious
one who seeks to know
A bit more about me:
Since 1991 I have taught English, both to teens and adults. Presently I teach and provide English-language support at two colleges in San Francisco. I scribble a bit of poetry and prose, adore listening to my friends read their work, envy those who can recite poems by heart, and have done some work editing and copy writing.
For 8 years I have been practicing as a Buddhist, and am in the process of getting ordained in The FWBO tradition.
The languages I have studied are French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Indonesian, Mandarin Chinese. Presently I am trying to teach myself Hindi.
My wanderlust has led me down many paths. My first trip abroad, while in high school, was an archaeological dig in the South of France. As a college student I attended university in Japan, picked coffee beans in Nicaragua, and backpacked through Greece. After graduation, I drove across the country to California, and since then my vagabond ways have led me to practice capoeira in Brazil, gut fish in Alaska, study Spanish in Mexico, teach English in Indonesia, help to create a non-profit English program with a weaving cooperative in Guatemala, lead yoga on Buddhist retreats in the UK, explore Spain, and make a pilgrimage, with two of my Buddhist teachers, to Buddhist sites in China.
In December 2007/January 2008 I was in India, teaching English on a Buddhist youth retreat. I am committed to working more in the future with this group, The National Network of Buddhist Youth, and will meet them again in May in Dehra Dun.
For 20 years I have practiced yoga, and for eight years have been certified to teach. I also have dance and martial arts training. These days I lead yoga on Buddhist retreats, and occasionally study bhangra, Feldenkrais and hip hop dance. I do love to ride my bike to Ocean Beach whenever I can.
